SNS 2005 March 26 : Simpang Kiri Track
Skate at one of the island's least known but most enjoyable stretches. The Simpang Kiri track, less than 2 km from Yishun MRT station is 2.8km of smooth, straight skating along the Sungei Simpang Kiri all the way to the river mouth.
Meeting Point & End Point : Yishun MRT Station
Skating is not allowed within the station, gather on the steps outside the station.
Time : 8pm
Estimated duration : 1.5 hours
Estimated distance : 9 km
Diffuculty Level : Beginner to Advanced
Important Note : Bring your torchlights! This track
is known to be unlit on some nights.
Route Description:
A very simple route. From Yishun MRT station, we cross to the opposite corner of the junction and skate North along Yishun Avenue 2. Its a straight skate on a bumpy pedestrian track through 2 junctions. After passing the neighbourhood park and Murata Building, we will have reached the start of the Simpang Kiri Park Connector. Once we are here, enjoy the 2.8 km stretch of track! Go a few
laps if you want! After a good skate on the track, we will skate back the way
we came to Yishun MRT Station. (see map, source National Parks Board website)
Danger Spots:
2 moderately steep slopes, one at the entrance to the park, another one at the mid-point along the track. Skaters who are uncomfortable with slopes should skate with assistance or use the railings along the sides if available

it is 5.6km to & fro. Unless you are stopping at the very end, then it is 2.8km.
And the road before reaching there is REAL 'bumpy ', tiny potholes every where.
Smooth road & no twits, yet there are plenty of creapy crawly bugs for you to run over.
And the end, you will see the 'Bottle Village' (Old Sea Sport centre). Look out for the 'bottle' tree

I noticed that there are a few skaters who are extremely interested in SNS but feel they lack the stamina and road confidence.
I recently started a small interest group of skaters who are interested in building up their skating skill levels for Night Skating and would welcome anyone along for additional runs normally done on Fridays or the weekends evenings.
We are not for profit interest group.

I am very interested in this nite event but i dare not partipate because i am a beginner ( level 1 lesson 4)and is afraid of skating with the experts, i am afraid of slopes too. My daughter learnt together with me and she is such a fast learner, whether we skate together or in a class, im always the last person to reach the destinations, feel very "PAI SAY"

It doesn't matter if you are a level 1 lesson 4 skater. i remember the first time i joined the SNS event. the next time i put on my blades I had dramatically improved my skating techniques. the harder the route the faster you learn. But SNS events are always full of volunteers who are willing to help and guide you. so dun worry. just have fun.

Hi ...anyone care to tell me if any registration is required? or i just pop out with my blades at Yishun meeting point to join u guys ?
Err....i am slightly better then beginner only..so can i join ?

Do not worry if you are beginner. As long as you have the passion in enjoying this sport, you can do it. just remember that skateline's staff are very friendly. They will give you a helping hand if you ask. I plan to join this party with my 4 year-old son. he is a beginner.
BTW, anyone who are interested can come along. Just follow the guideline given... You may drop a email to skateline for registration, if you wish. Cheers.

Hi everyone, 4 more days to SNS.. Yeah.. I didnt go for the last one on Feb.. so was thinking of going for this one. To all the newbies that have jus started skating, don worry, there will be help along the way. Some SAV's & perhaps some instructor will always be there to help you (some might even skate in "plain clothes"). Bring some torchlights, practice your heel stop (it is very very very important), wear a helmet(at least) & try to skate a little more relax... Cheers..

It is fun to skate in group. Especially with experience Skate Assist Volunteer and instructors guiding along the ways. I missed the last month SNS due to unfavourable weather.I would not want to miss this tour.
To Beginner, practice what you have learned. Whether it is heel stop or balancing, put in another hour or more for next couple of day. Every little effect you add in will yield improvement. You will enjoy more fun at this coming SNS. Cheers.

This Sungei Simpang Kiri park connector is a joy to skate on, except when it has just rained (lots of twigs and seed pods). I go there with my 8yo son every week or so. With him, we do the 5.6km. If skating alone, I usually do around 8km or so. There is only a bridge there with a slope - not very scary, even for me who is afraid of slopes. I don't dare skate much at sembawang park as it has too many steep slopes, although my son takes all those slopes in his stride(!).
Are you all organising another trip somewhere in this part of Singaproe again?
